The fantasy film Beowulf is set for release today. Based on an adaptation of the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf, the movie uses digitally enhanced live action to create the film.
Directed by Robert Zemeckis, Beowulf features a star-studded cast including Ray Winstone (Beowulf), Anthony Hopkins (King Hrothgar), Robin Wright Penn (Queen Wealtheow), Dominic Keating (Old Cain), Alison Lohman (Ursula), John Malkovich (Unferth), Crispin Glover (Grendel), Brendan Gleeson (Wiglaf) and Angelina Jolie (Grendel’s Mother).
Zemeckis is known as the director for many other hit films, including the Back to the Future series, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump and Cast Away.
The story is about a warrior who is sent to the town of Heorot by King Hrothgar to rid it of a murderous monster, Grendel. The bloody tale gets complicated as the obedient Beowulf starts to have second thoughts when he realizes the acts of Grendel may actually be the fault of the king. Beowulf is unprepared for the true battle with Grendel’s Mother.
